This job is important because it helps people remember dates coming, like when a permission slip is due or if there's a spirit day is coming up. We don't say these things during Recap, so they aren't in the assignment notebooks. If this job wasn't done, people might forget upcoming events. Someone might have not known that they needed to bring money for a field trip, which can result in them not being able to go. Another person could have forgotten they had field day next week, so they didn't bring gym shoes. Those were two scenarios that can happen if we didn't have Announcements at all.
At the end of the day, it is REARJMCL. After Evaluate, if we have time, we have Announcements. You start it by doing a loud give-me-five. People are riled up at the end of the day, so be a little uptight. Sit in the chair and ask if we have anything important coming up. Call on people who are quite and with their hands up. Remember to only call on the same person twice. If there is an outburst of talking, do as many give-me-fives as it takes for it to die out. After all the announcements are said, do the spiel. When there's no time for that, just recite the spiel. This job is important because it helps people remember dates coming, like when a permission slip is due or if there's a spirit day is coming up. We don't say these things during Recap, so they aren't in the assignment notebooks. If this job wasn't done, people might forget upcoming events. Good morning! I'm Addy, the morning greeter, and good morning is one of the things you say to peers when the enter the class. The other thing you MUST do is repeat the goal we made yesterday to everybody! One of the tricks to this is saying it very peppy. Being happy will cheer others up and will make them ready for the school day! But you have to say one last thing, remember to move your magnet. Some people will forget to and it's my job to remind them! They probably want a lunch. I usually stop my job at nine o' clock because then, I can unpack my school supplies and get ready for the day. That is basically all you need to do! And remember, be cheery, or else you will make everybody else glum, and why would you want to to that? The reason my job is so important is because it reminds my classmates of the goal of that day! After I tell them, hopefully they will try to complete and help others to reaching that goal. I also remind my peers to move their magnet so we can take attendance. This is very important because we need to make sure that we know who is here and who is not. This job is sort of like a reminder job because you are directing people to work at different things during the course of the day. But overall, this job is needed for people to remember goals! This job is defiantly very important and each day would be a train wreck without it!
The Pencil Sharpener This job takes place directly after the announcer says his/her spiel. When you are emptying out the pencil sharpener, you always have to make sure that you empty it out completely. Do not spill any of the led on the table, if you do make sure that you clean it up. Take a paper towel and wipe it up or dust it. After you take it out you have to bring the four containers to the garbage, you should always go two at a time because when people are walking in your way it is kind of hard to hold four of them. When you are done with that you have to bring the containers back and put in them back into the pencil sharpener and then you are done. This is not required but I like to go to the pencil lost and found and sharpen all the pencils that are in there you don't have to do this but I like to do because it's good to have sharped pencils. If you decide to do this do it before you empty out the pencil sharpener because it would just make more work. This job is so important because if we did not empty out the pencil sharpener constantly then when some one sharpens their pencil the pencil sharpener would get clogged and you would have to unclog it, and that is not a very fun thing to do. Another worse thing that could happen if you leave the pencil shavings in the pencil sharpener is that it could break and that would not be good either. The Afternoon Reminder At the end of the day when the bell rings make sure that you go to the corner of the door and say jobs mail chairs to everyone that walks through the door. If they did their jobs got their mail and stacked their chairs then they will high five you, if not they go back and do it. Do not leave until everyone is out the door. If you do this and some one does not listen remind them the next day nicely by saying yesterday I said jobs mail chairs and you said yup even though you forgot your jobs mail and chairs. Usually after that they will do there job mail and chairs but if they don't you must get more serious. This job is so important because You need people to always know what they are forgetting. Imagine if every day everyone in the class forgot their jobs mail and chairs, the classroom would be chaos because no one would be doing their jobs the mail boxes would be stuffed because no one would get their mail. And at the end of the day the chairs would all be not stacked because no one was their to remind them.
My job is the attendance and I have to make sure to do the attendance and to see that everyone is here or not. I have to go to the computer everyday at 9:05 and count the magnets of hot lunch or cold lunch or home lunch. In the morning almost nobody moves their magnet so you have to do a give me five to tell everyone to move your magnet. Still some people don't listen to the give me 5 so you will have to go up to them and tell them personally to do your job. For the morning attendance you have to login but the username and password are already there so you just have to press sign in. This job is very important to the classroom because the if we don't do the lunch count the lunch room will not know of how many food dishes to make and any people that ordered hot lunch in our class would not get it. If we didn't do the attendance the adult could think that the person got hurt and they didn't go to school when they were supposed to be there. If the job was not done well as I said some one might not get a lunch if you didn't put down that they needed one. Some things that could make this job better is to hopefully have everyone move their magnet and me not having to tell every one to do it.
In this job we count the attendance and lunch count and if you watch this video it will explain more of our job. this job is vital to our classroom because its attendance and lunches this job is very helpful to Mr. Solarz because if we do it he doesn't. have to this job take very little skill and time you've gotta look at the magnet chart and mark people absent or her and if there getting school or bringing there own lunches. Sometimes we have to remind people to move there magnets and its very easy to forget (I forgot just this morning!) but usually you don't have to remind them or one of your peers will do it for you. The reason that this job is important to is if we don't do it kids might not get there lunches and if we don't mark them here people would have got scared that they disappeared
The teachers assistant has to fill in for anyone who isn't able to do their job. To be the teachers assistant you have to be aware of who is present or absent that day and make sure there job is getting done. To be the teachers assistant you have to know a little bit about what you have to do for each job. The most common jobs you will have to substitute for are Recaper, Evaluator, and Announcer and as you can see I am subbing in for the Recaper below. The teachers assistant just has to have a pretty good understanding of how to do all of the jobs and just be willing to do whatever job. The teachers assistants are also mail distributors but that is on a separate blog post. This is a very important job to our classroom because if we didn't have a teachers assistant then I can't imagine what we would do when people were absent. If the teachers assistant wasn't there either the jobs wouldn't get done or we would fight over who gets to do them. This would be bad because then we would never get jobs done and move on with our day. One thing that I think could make this job better is if you look at the magnets and see who wasn't here and then you can go look and see what there job is. Sometimes we just wait until there is no one doing a job to go and do it it would be better if we knew ahead of time what we had to do. My main job is to bring the lunch crate down and back up every day. It usually helps if you switch off after or before the ramp. We always communicate before we start about if you wanted to do the ramp or not. The lunch crate starts before Mr. Solarz but doesn't get to go early. On the ramp you always want to go slow going down and plant you're feet on the bend. Then once you hand off the crate you just get into line and be part of the line again. You also have to be careful that you aren't spilling any lunch boxes because then someone is without a lunch or a lunch box. When you are going back up the lunch crate is usually overflowing so we have to pick up the lunch boxes and bring them back in the crate. This job is the most important because if we didn't have someone to do this we would all have to walk back to class and we would all be hungry and would miss part of lunch. If the job wasn't done well all he classes would be disrupted and the hallways would be way to loud. Plus it would be disrupting to other classes in the hallways. A couple of things that you could make an effort to be better with is going slow down the ramp you don't want the crate tipping over and the lunch boxes spilling out believe me it was a hazard I did it one of the first times going up the ramp. If you want more info on the job ask the first people to do it Cassidy and Stephen.
Hi! I'm the magnet mover and here are some tips on how to be super fantastic at it. First thing you should do, is wait to do your job until evaluate because then you can remember who is absent and tell the absent minded professor. If somebody moves the magnets for you, you should ask if anybody was out for the day, but if you don't know who moved them, you do a Give Me Five to ask who did it. A hint to doing the job is to start moving the magnets from up to down. For me it makes the whole thing go by quicker. You should also help make sure that everybody moves their magnet because you are going to deal with seeing if they are there or not later. You also need to remember to respond to giveme 5s and not just ignore them, because the announcement your peer is making might be very useful and help you in the future. This job is very important because in the next morning, everybody will need to move their magnets. And everybody in the class will need to be reported at school or absent. And the way our class takes attendance is the magnets, so the next morning counts on the magnet mover! Moving the magnets also decides what everybody is getting for lunch so without me, the lunch count would be all mixed up! And my peers would have to move back their magnet to see if they are getting something different! People also might move someone else's magnet if they are not moved back! This job is defiantly important to the whole classroom!
When doing Daily Photo Journal you have to be very focused at getting every single photo on the SD card onto the daily photo journal. You have to make sure you plug in the SD card at recap because the computer can sometimes be very slow. One of the most important things is putting autoplay on the slideshow so the people that go to the Daily Photo Journal don;t have to click play. This job is very important to our classroom because everyone who goes to the website usually goes to this. It is also important because it is like a electronic yearbook. It is always with us. Some ideas to make this job better are try to look back at some of the older photos and edit them if they are blurry or they just don't fit. Also if you ever have time clear all the Sd cards so they are all clear and have a lot of space on them.
So when you are doing the computer cart job you have a lot of things you have to remember. You will have to get the computer cart, clean it up when we are done, and then take it back to either Mrs. A's room, Mrs. Cary's extra room or to a specific class that needs it. If you get this job you will have to look on the schedule in the morning to see when we have the computers today and when. This is so you know when you have to get the cart and which cart to get. So when you go get the cart the first thing you want to do is unplug the cart. Then if you want (I would highly suggest this) you can quickly check if all the computers are there. If some are missing take note of that so when you are cleaning up you don't go looking for that computer. Next you will take the sign (Cart 6 or 4 is here) and put it on the cart. Now carefully take the cart to our class. Remember that this cart is filled with expensive technology that you wouldn't want to break; so be very careful when taking it down the hallway. Watch out for kids or teachers walking down the halls. So now that the computer cart is in the classroom, you will want to open the door(s) to let the kids get their computers. But don't run and get in line, first plug in the cart. Make sure the lights go on. Then you can go and get in line so you might get a computer. When the class is done with our computers wait till almost all the computers are in the cart and then start tidying up the cart. Plug in all the computers correctly, then center all the computers on their shelves. When we have cart 6 try your best to tidy up the plugs and center the computers, but you can never get it perfect. When you have cart 4, you have to make it look really nice. Push the cords back so they don't bunch up. Then close the cart door(s). Grab the sign and then unplug the cart. Make sure to retract the cord. Then carefully bring the cart back to it's designated room. If the computer cart job wasn't done: we couldn't start our computer lessons on time. Also if we didn't get the computer cart we wouldn't be able to do all the fun things we do on computers. We also have to be careful with the computers so they don't break. So this job is pretty important and has many things relying on it.
For being teachers assistant you could look at other people's video's for our class to help you know how to do that job. for mail distributor the magnet board tells you who has what number. Also if you do become mail distributor don't put things in number twenty seven's mail box (unless there is a twenty seventh person in next year's class. If we didn't have mail distributor some kids wouldn't get notified of things or if mail was misplaced it would go to the wrong person. Not many people would be able to do fun activities. We wouldn't know our grades on tests. We might not even get our report cards!
The responsibilities of paper passer are to give everyone a paper. You really only have to do inspector gadgets though. Mr. Solarz never really has you do paper passer. So you take the papers and go put one on every desk. For everyone to use and you give yourself one to. This would be important if we ever did it but sense we don't here is what would happen if it wasn't done right. If it wasn't done right everyone would get crumpled papers or no papers at all and that would be bad. Also if it was a test you would a crumpled hard to read test and not a nice readable test! That would not be fun to get a bad grade and it wouldn't even be your fault, it would be the paper passer's fault. So then the paper passer would get intruble and that would not be fun!
The lunch crate job is actually pretty easy. It isn't that hard and sort of his really fun. With this job, your and your partner are in charge of making sure that the lunch crate gets down to the lunch room before lunch and back to the classroom after lunch. If you forget to bring the lunch crate down and back, then you kind of failed your job. You also have to make sure that no lunches boxes fall out of the crate when you bring it down and back and make sure that you pick up any lunches boxes that are not in the bin. For example, me and Alex sometimes forget to pick up any lunches boxes that are on the table outside of the classroom. You need to pick those up. Another example is when you are bringing the lunch bin back to the classroom, you have to remember to pick up any of the lunch boxes that are on the floor by the crate. Those might have fallen out because sometimes the lunch boxes are overflowing in the bin. Me and Alex usually trade when we bring the crate down and back. Sometimes me or Alex take the crate down first and the ramp. Then when I or him are at the bottom of the ramp we switch and I do the other half. That's when you bring the crate all the way to the lunch room. If you watch(ed) the video you will see an example of me and Alex doing it. Anyway, on the ramp, you need to be super careful because that is kind of the hardest part when you are bringing the lunch crate down and back. You have to go slowly on the ramp because you don't want the crate to tip over or fall off the scooter because then you are going to have to quickly clean up the lunch boxes and put them in the crate. So be CAREFUL! Also, be really careful in trying NOT to crash into anyone because when you crash into someone, it actually really hurts. So always go slowly and carefully when you are steering the crate.
This job is extremely important to the classroom because if this job doesn't get done, we all would have to go down tot he lunch room at the end of the day and get our lunch boxes instead of someone bringing the whole crate down so we wouldn't have to walk. If this job isn't done well, then people might get hurt from the crate crashing into them, they might be upset that we forgot their lunch box and that it is not in the crate and they would have to go back to the classroom and get it, they would be crabby, and they would probably not like the way that you and your partner are doing the job. Some ideas that I have that might make this job better would be that maybe only one person should do it because you don't really need two people to bring down a crate full of lunch bins. A Brief Description of my Job. The responsibilities of my job are to set up the schedule and morning announcements. It is not very hard and once you do the job for a week it should become a natural instinct to set up these two things. All of this is required to be done by 9:05. If it wasn't done, we wouldn't be able to watch the morning announcements. A trick to do while doing this job is to do it right when you get into the classroom in the morning. This way you won't forget to do your job and people will be able to look at the schedule before the school day starts to be prepared. Also when you set up the schedule make sure the mini t.v. is turned on. If the t.v. is not turned on , than the schedule will not project on the t.v. screen. This job is important to the classroom because if it didn't get done, we would not be able to see what we have going on in the day and not see some upcoming events or important dates on the morning announcements. You have to make sure that this job is done every day and be sure that the morning announcements work. A tip to make this job even better is to also turn off 2/3 of the lights in the room so that we can see the morning announcements better. Don't forget to turn them back on though, because we need them for learning. I hope this is useful for how to do my job.
Chair stacker job - So the main responsibility of this job is to make sure that all chairs are stacked at the end of the day. To start off, you don't start this job until after REARJMCL because you don't stack the chairs until people leave. Your job at the end of the day is to stack the chairs that people have not. You need to do this so then the janitor can come in and vacuum. If certain people continue to not stack there chairs you can tell Mr.Solarz and or tell them quietly and remind them. If the don't they might have to stack all of the chairs in the classroom, also on Friday's the class will stack the chairs in the center table. One trick for doing this is you can count points off on the checklist if the class is not doing there job of stacking there chairs, which can end up pretty bad for the class. One last thing is if we have assigned seats, remember the kids who pull up chairs because if the patrol leave and their chairs are put back after thy leave then remember not to count it off. This job is very important because it then makes it easier for the janitor to clean the room, this doesn't just help the classroom but it also helps the school because then the janitor can clean it faster which is better for him and everyone. This job also helps me because then if people stack there chairs then I don't have to stack all of them in the classroom. This job is very important because of the amount it helps the school. If this job was not done there would be many chairs not stacked and the classroom would be all messed up. This also helps the people that do the attendance a bit because most of the chairs that are not stacked in the morning are here, but if we weren't there to stack them they might think they are here. This job is very important and without it the classroom would be very messed up. I think to make this job even better we could also have a push in the chairs job so we wouldn't get like -10 on the checklist. I think this job is already awesome and I don't think that there is much left to add to this job and I hope the next person for this job does good! ( If you would like more information ask Tyler and Addie H. the recent chair stacker in this years class.). I hope you enjoy this job and do it well! The main responsibility of the chair stackers is to make sure all of the chairs are stacked at the end of the day. We normally have to stay a little bit later (maybe 2 minutes) after school to stack all of the chairs that weren't stacked by other people. All of the chairs that weren't stacked are counted against us on the checklist. There normally is a note on the whiteboard where you can write the number of chairs that you had to stack. When certain kids seem to be always forgetting to stack their chairs, you may have to privately let them know, so that they will stack their chairs in the future, benefiting the class.
This job is important because it makes it much easier for the janitor to clean the room after school because he/she wouldn't have to vacuum around the chairs, and it would make a lot more open space he/she might not see otherwise. It also helps the classroom with kids remembering to have good habits that are enforced on the checklist. It helps the classroom a lot by keeping it clean and organized by making space for the janitor to clean. Doing recap is one of the most important jobs out of all the jobs. You have to go over the homework and start REARJMCL in the right way. First in Recap, you have to get the classes attention and take control and maybe say, assignment notebooks out for recap. Then you must repeat the goal to the goal to the class. After, ask the class "What is the homework for tonight." Call on someone that has there hand up and then right what they said on the board. Repeat for everyone but maybe in between check on peoples assignment notebook's. Then ask if that is it for homework then tell the evaluator to come up. Recap is the most important job in REARJMCL you got to make sure you have all the homework and try to make sure you don't run out of time because if recap is late then we can't get a checklist, then we're in a big rush. If this job wasn't well done you would cause some people to turn in there blogs late or not get all the homework so you must do this job well.
Absent-Minded ProfessorMy job is the Absent Minded Professor job. For my job you write down all the homework that the re-caper already wrote down on the board. You definitely always want to write down everything that is on the board so that the person that is absent isn't confused. After you write down all the homework, you need to write down all the due dates. For example; Spelling City Week 27, Due: Wednesday. After you write everything on the board, you go and return the sheet to the student's desk. You might want to gather the homework that they missed that day. For example the math worksheet that we did in math, you want to put that with the homework sheet that you just wrote down. The day that they come back, you have to explain all the homework to them, being very specific on all the things that they missed. For example; if the asked about the math homework tell them what to do on the sheet in case they are confused. This job is very important to our classroom because without it the kids that are absent won't be able to know what homework they missed while they were out sick. It is also important because without it when the absent-person comes back, not many people will be willing to tell them what exactly they missed and need to catch up on. Overall this job is important because when a person is absent, or sick, they will need to be caught up so that they don't fall behind.
My job is the ipad cart monitor so when the cords get very tangly I fix them. It is not very hard to do you just make sure every one of the ipad are there if they are not there you go and figure out were they are! So I think that a tip is to ask your friends if they think that the cords are tangly, if they are you make time to fix them which does not take very long. This job is very important because If we did not have me or someone else doing it we would not be able to have the ipads because the cords would not be taken care of them. Why I like the job is because so many other classes use the ipads so I want to make it good for them so they can get to them quicker to use them. The only thing I would say is that it can be hard to do it without anyone trying to get through or needs to use one of the cords. A duster has to make sure there is no dust in areas we don't usually touch. For example, on top of the refrigerator, between pots with plants in them, slots in cabinets, etc. You do this job about twice a week, or when you see a dusty area. I think that before dusting, you should do a give-me-5 and ask if there is an area that you don't want dusted, if there is something fragile in the area. The room would be extremely dusty if it wasn't dusted regularly. For anyone in the room that has an allergy, that would mean lots of coughing and stuffy noses!
In my opinion I listen to what they say and type it as fast I can. But even if I can't get every thing down it will still be on the board. So you can every thing down before the end of the day. You also have to switch it to student calendar so all the students can go look at what there home work for the night is. If the student calendar wasn't done or wasn't done well enough the students wouldn't know all there homework is. So when they come in the next day and they don't have probably wouldn't have one thing done. Like a blog or there math homework. The inspector gadget has many things they need to do. For example, During REARJMCL You have to go around the class room and pick up anything that is on the ground and try to return it to the nearest desk. You also, could do a "give-me-five" and ask whose it is. Some tips I have for this job is go all around the room not just under the desks. Another one is when you go around the room to see if there is anything and there is a lot you should do a "give-me-five" and say that we need to be neater. If it is clean then do a "give-me-five" saying that we did good today. Some tricks about inspector gadget are you should always make sure you look every where so we do not get ants eventually. Some other tricks are, If you can't find what desk it is supposed to be in do a "give-me-five" or put it in the lost and found. When you do this job make sure that you are picking things up that are not supposed to be on the ground. For example, if you were looking around for things to pick up and you see a water bottle do not throw it away or do a give-me-five about it look who's desk it is under and put it back on their desk. On the other hand there is an exception when you find a water bottle behind the file cabinets, that is when you can do a give-me-five and ask who's it is. There is also a way you can find a water bottle and bring it to someones desk, you can look if there is a last name on it and bring it to that persons desk. Inspector gadget is a important part of our classroom because if we did not clean up the classroom from food we could get ants and they could take over that food and eventually they could probably find the lunch crate and take over our lunches. If we did not clean up all of the pencils off of the floor the janitor would have too and that would probably take a long time. Also if we didn't do this job the room would never be clean.

Our Formal Classroom Jobs
Most things in our classroom are "collaborative responsibilities" that we all share and do whenever necessary, but some things are assigned. We call these our "Formal Jobs." Formal jobs can be done by anyone, but must get done by the end of each day and one person is in charge of making sure it happens. This blog attempts to explain each of those jobs. Archives
